Dense "pea soup" fog today. So we motored slowly out to Damariscove Island (another of our favorite overnight anchorages). Damariscove Island is off the coast of Maine (near BoothBay). It has a long history of fishing and agriculture dating back greater than 400 years. There are also records indicating the Mayflower put in here.
During World War II German submarines used to surface at night in the cove to ventilate their boats. Today it is owned by the Nature Conservancy. The fog lifted and we walked the whole way around the island.
We spotted all kinds of wild flowers and fowl.
