DAY #32 - MOORES HARBOR TO MERCHANT ISLAND

AUGUST 12, 2007

We started out the day by going ashore on Isle Au Haut and taking a hike through the woods to town and back.

A large part of Isle Au Haut is part of Acadia National Park. It is a hilly island with rocky shores and covered with woods. There are Christmas trees everywhere - even growing out of rocks. Camping and hiking are allowed and most people arrive by ferry.

Afterwards we returned to the boat and set out for Merchant Island which is right around the corner. Merchant Island and Harbor Island (owned by the Nature Conservancy) form a nice, protected little harbor with nice sunset views.
