DAY # 85 - ISLE OF SHOALS TO EAST END OF CAPE COD CANAL

OCTOBER 4, 2007

The wind howled all night and it was so foggy we could barely see the other vessel that was moored nearby. We woke up at 4:30am and since the conditions were persisting we just decided to postpone our departure until tomorrow. We slept until 7:30 am and woke to absolute silence, no wind, and clearing skies. So we immediately slipped our mooring line and set out in the direction of the Cape Cod Canal. We really didn't know if we would make it to the canal or end up at Provincetown (on the end of Cape Cod) or have to stop sooner in a place like Boston.

It turned out to be a windless, glassy day so we motored to the Cape Cod Canal. As we approached the Boston shipping channel we were lucky enough to have a couple of whales swim along the surface nearby. However, it is very difficult to get a photo of them. It was getting dark when we arrived at the Cape Cod Canal so we anchored behind the jetty at the east end of the canal. It was fun to watch the parade of ships exiting the canal in the dark.
