DAY #50 - BAKER ISLAND TO HOG ISLAND

SEPTEMBER 4TH, 2008 (CONTINUED)

We were awakened by a fellow on another boat who told us that "Amante" had been trying to call us on the radio. When we reached them we agreed to check in with customs at Bar Harbor and then go on over to Hog Island (in Flanders Bay).

Checking in simply involved calling all our information in over the phone and then having a customs officer come down to the dock in Bar Harbor and double check all our documents. We were very lucky that two cruise ships had also just come in and customs was too busy to spend much time with us. We had nothing to worry about, yet it was nice to be only subjected to a pleasant greeting and some casual conversation welcoming us back to the States.

Afterwards we motored over to Hog Island. Despite the fact that it was nearly high tide we went ashore and gathered some mussels. Back at the boat we steamed the mussels and celebrated our successful passage with the crew of "Amante". They are currently doing the kind of full time cruising on a limited budget that we hope to do in the future. Hopefully our paths will cross again in the future.
